A Legacy of Faith

Glad to have quickly dropped by and met my mom’s side of the family. I heard wonderful stories about my grandparents, my mom, and their family. I am blessed to know the positive impact they made during their lifetime. Even more, I am blessed to know the legacy they left behind.

My Lola Meren, whom I never had the chance to meet because she was promoted to glory while my mom was still single, had a terminal illness that led her to a personal relationship with Jesus. She asked God for a three-year extension so she could share the message of salvation with her clan. God miraculously healed her and granted the extension she requested.

True enough, she introduced many of her relatives to Christ. According to my mom, my Lola and Lolo even organized a Christian crusade in Leyte to share Jesus with their family and community. As a result, churches were planted in San Isidro, Leyte, and many of our relatives came to know the Lord. After the extension, Lola Meren peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

During the reunion, I was amazed to witness the lives they had touched even though they are no longer with us. The impact they made outlived them, and their legacy remains alive and active today.

My grandparents passed it on to my mom, and my mom together with my dad passed it on to us. Now, together with my husband, I desire to pass it on to our children, and they will pass it on to the next generation.

I am simply grateful to know that I come from a lineage of ordinary people who encountered an extraordinary God. One important decision made by my Lola—to accept Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior—has made a tremendous difference in the lives of her relatives and throughout her lineage.

Glory to God alone.

P.S. During our Life Group session yesterday, a friend mentioned something she remembered my mom once saying: “The greatest legacy we can leave our children is not wealth, but leading them to Jesus.”

Have a blessed Sunday.

Psalm 145:4

“One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts.”
