A Heart Revealed on a Morning Walk

Heart-shaped germilina leaf found during a morning walk

Decided to have an early morning walk since my system had already been up for five hours. Pray, read, reflect — I finished all three, but I couldn’t understand why I was prompted to get up early and roam around the subdivision for almost an hour without any specific message to “bring home” after the walk.

Isn’t it that when you are woken up, there is usually a purpose? In my mind, maybe God just wanted me to burn calories, go home, and get ready for church. Kidding aside, I felt like I was walking around Jericho more than seven times. Maybe He just wanted to spend time with me, like a walk in the park.

When God Used a Simple Leaf to Speak to My Heart

So after not having any clear message or direction, I decided to go home. As usual, there were leaves on the pathway. I didn’t mind them at first until I saw a germilina leaf that caught my attention. (Years ago, I wrote a similar note to this one, though it was a different home address—we had moved since then. Here is the link, just in case you are interested in reading it. By the way, we don’t have a germilina tree, but there is one outside the subdivision, and most likely the leaf was just carried into our area.)

Going back to the narration, I remembered that God had spoken to me through germilina leaves before, and I realized that He did have a message at the end of the “walk” after all. Looking at the imperfect germilina leaf, I was reminded of my prayer the night before, when I asked God to fix me… to fix my heart. And right before my very eyes, He was showing me the condition of my heart through the heart-shaped germilina leaf — imperfect, skewed, discolored, partially eaten by insects, and partly dried up.

It is not easy to admit, but that is the condition of my heart (not referring to the physical heart, but I believe you understand what I mean). Looking at the other leaves, I noticed they all differed in size, color, and shape. A few were perfectly heart-shaped, but most were not. I realized that He was also showing me the condition of everyone else’s heart.

God Knows Your Heart

You see, we are all transparent before Him, and He knows exactly the condition of our hearts — all our flaws, anger, envy, lust, unforgiveness, pride, malice, doubt, fear, guilt, and shame… everything.

That simple leaf reminded me of something I already knew but needed to hear again: God knows your heart. He sees beyond what other people see. He knows the parts of us that are whole and beautiful, but He also sees the broken, wounded, and imperfect places we sometimes try to hide.

That morning reminded me that nothing in my heart is hidden from God. He sees even the things I may not fully recognize in myself. And perhaps the best response isn’t to hide those things, but to invite Him to search our hearts and reveal what needs His healing and transformation.

It reminds me of David’s prayer in Psalm 139:23–24:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

What a beautiful prayer to make our own: Lord, search my heart. Reveal what needs to change, heal what is broken, and lead me in Your way.

God Loves Us Even in Our Imperfection

But what truly struck me is the truth that He loves us anyway, and He is more than willing to fix you and me, if and only if we allow Him to.

This is the ultimate truth — the Creator of the universe, the One who placed the stars in their positions, the One who is seated on the throne, loves you. He is not too busy nor too far above that He will not notice you. In fact, He is so mindful of you that He knows the number of strands of hair on your head right now.

Let God Heal Your Heart

He created you, He knows your heart completely, and He is able to heal and transform the places within you that are broken. Medicine may heal a headache, but the issues of the heart cannot be solved by simple remedies. He alone can heal your broken heart and your crushed soul. He can mend you and make you whole. Let that sink deep into your soul.

Maybe there are parts of your heart that need healing too. Perhaps you’re carrying hurt, unforgiveness, fear, guilt, disappointment, or something you haven’t told anyone about.

God knows your heart completely. You don’t have to hide the imperfect parts from Him. Bring them honestly before Him and allow Him to work in you. Healing may be a process, but we can trust the One who created our hearts to continue shaping and transforming us.
